Membership Categories
BASRT has a number of different membership categories. The main categories are listed below. Please click on any that interest you to find more information. In addition you may be eligible for UKCP registration through your membership of BASRT.
General Member
This is a broad level of membership suitable for all therapists who practise sexual, couple or relationship therapy.
General members sign up to our Code of Ethics and Principles of Good Practice. Some may be preparing to apply for accredited membership. (Applicants for accreditation must have been a general member for a minimum of one year). Click here for further information.
Student Member
Trainee psychosexual therapists may apply to join BASRT as a student member soon as they begin a BASRT approved course.
They can take advantage of half-price membership for two years or until they gain their Diploma. They can then move to general membership and have their name on our publicly available therapists list. Click here for further information.
Affiliate Member
Those who work in associated professions and have an interest in sexual and relationship therapy may join BASRT as an affiliate member.
This membership category is for those who do not practise as sexual or relationship therapists. You do not sign up to our Code of Ethics and Principles of Good Practice and are not bound by our Complaints Procedure, however you must accept BASRT Rule Six which covers affiliate membership. Affiliate membership is open to those working overseas and to retired practitioners who wish to keep in touch. The membership fee is considerably below that for general membership. Click here for further information.
Accredited Member
Accredited membership gives members a title that can be advertised.
This level of membership gives the highest level of protection for the public as accredited members have met rigorous standards and are licensed on an annual basis. They must continue to meet set standards with regard to supervision, minimum practice hours, insurance, continuity of practice and CPD. Click here for further information.
Accredited Supervisor
Accredited members of BASRT who meet the standards required may apply to become an accredited supervisor.

Fellow
Senior members of BASRT who have contributed significantly to the profession of sexual and relationship therapy may become a Fellow.
They must be nominated by their peers. Please contact the Administrator for further details.
UKCP Registration
You may apply for UKCP Registration if you have been accredited by BASRT and successfully completed a four-year BASRT approved course at Masters level.
UKCP registrants are listed on the UKCP public register of psychotherapists. Registrants receive the quarterly UKCP magazine "The Psychotherapist". Please look at the UKCP website for further details of the benefits of registration with UKCP.
You may also be able to apply if you have not completed a four-year BASRT approved course. BASRT is introducing further categories to allow applications for UKCP registration from BASRT members who have either:
- completed a two year BASRT approved course and have other appropriate training, or
- completed a level of training that is equivalent to, or exceeds, that required by a four year BASRT approved course at Masters level.
Please contact the Administrator for further details of how you might achieve UKCP registration.
